Royal Navy HMS Britannia 1915 anchor brooch sunk by UB-50 in 1918

A scarce original Great War period 'H.M.S.Britannia badge, in the form of a hollow silver anchor with applied gold plated lettering the reverse impressed with Chester silver hallmarks for 1915. Very good condition, complete with original pin fittings, no dents or distortions.
Length 40mm.

H.M.S. Britannia was a King Edward VII-class pre-dreadnought battleship of the Royal Navy. She was named after Britannia, the Latin name of Great Britain under Roman rule. On 9 November 1918, just two days before the end of the war, she was torpedoed by a German submarine off Cape Trafalgar and sank with the loss of 50 lives. H.M.S.Britannia was one of the last British warships to be sunk in the war.
