1925-1937 Royal Navy, Pre Fleet Air Arm, Gold Pilot's Wing Sweetheart Brooch.

A superb and extremely rare Pilot's Wing sweetheart brooch, voided center with anchor and laurel wreath surround, the reverse impressed "14ct" and "18ct" (14 carat gold) pre 1931 and (18 carat gold). Excellent condition, original pin fittings incorporating safety catch.
Width 44mm.
Fleet Admiralty Order 2793 issued on the 2nd October 1925 described this pattern of wing to be worn by Royal Navy personnel who had qualified at RAF flying schools. At this time the Fleet Air Arm of the Royal Air Force had been formed for the specific purpose of flying from Royal Navy Air Craft Carriers. It continued to be worn until 1937 when the Fleet Air Arm was created as part of the Royal Navy and a crown was adopted to the wing.
