Many year ago, two old soldiers who served in the Middle East, saw one of these mother of pearl badges on my stall in London and told me that you would give one of these skilled craftsmen in the market, your cap badge for a short time and they would produce a copy of it in Mother of Pearl, to give to a loved one.
