A superb original First World War period fine quality 'King's Royal Rifle Corps gold and enamel brooch', the badge of the Regiment, a Maltese Cross with title circlet surmounted by crowned Latin motto scroll 'Celer et Audax' (Swift and Bold) inlaid with green enamel and mounted on a slim bar, the reverse impressed '9ct' (9 carat gold) and maker's details 'CP&Co' (Charles Packer & Co London). Excellent condition, complete with original pin fittings, enamel. perfect. Width 48mm. Height 29mm. In 1858 'Peninsula Barracks Winchester, Hampshire' became the home base and training centre for the 'Kings Royal Rifle Corps' (60th Rifles) and 'Rifle Brigade' and was called the 'Rifle Depot'. In 1951 the name of the Depot was changed to 'The Green Jackets Depot' and later to the 'The Green Jackets Brigade Depot'.
