The 11th Light Dragoons furnished an escort for Prince Albert on his way to London to wed Queen Victoria in 1840. So impressed with the regiment, he became Honorary Colonel and directed the 11th become an hussar corps designated Prince Albert's Own Hussars (hence the use of the crowned PAOH cypher.
A scarce example, the reverse bearing Birmingham 9 carat gold hallmarks for 1948 and with maker's details "JRG&S" J.R.Gaunt & Son. Very good condition, original pin fittings, no damage to the enamel.
