A scarce First World War period '5th Battalion London Rifle Brigade sweetheart brooch', gilded brass example bearing the 'Royal Arms' within a title circlet with 'South Africa 1900-02' honour, the reverse with evidence of having had a pin shank and hook, but for some unseemly reason these having been removed many years ago, otherwise I would have classed this in very good condition.
This is the first part of a large collection of First World War period, rare and wonderful sweetheart brooches, all in superb condition but with their pin fittings removed. These came attached on what could possibly be classed as a retailer's sample display board.
An unusual scarce First World War period 'London Rifle Brigade sweetheart brooch', hand painted lovat green enamelled badge on gilt plated brass shield, the reverse with maker's details "FRG" (F R Gomm, Birmingham). Very good condition, retaining original pin fittings, no stress or damage to the enamel, very minor surface scratches.
